What is Breed Specific Legislation?
Breed Specific Legislation is any law designed to target a specific breed, cross of a breed or generic type of dog.
BSL is a knee-jerk response by local (town, city, county), state/province or even national government to the ever-growing issue or problem dogs.
BSL is an attempt to reduce the number of dog-related incidents (attacks from the quick bite to the fatal maulings) through legislation.
So, how does BSL come about? Simple - through the acts of the minority of dog owners who are irresponsible and reckless and the reactions of those who have limited knowledge of dog behavior or management in response.
Please read these BSL FAQ’s for more information.
Please read this fictional account of how BSL gets its start.
